Evan H. Katz is the Managing Director at Crawford Ventures, Inc., an investment firm in New York City that forms, grows, holds interests in, and raises very substantial investor capital for hedge funds and private equity funds. At Crawford, Mr. Katz also utilizes his substantial experience and expertise with hedge funds to help develop, refine, and improve their investment strategies. He is very highly regarded in hedge fund and institutional investor communities, and was elected to, and currently serves as, a Director on the Hedge Fund Association (HFA) Board of Directors.
Upon graduating with honors (summa cum laude) from The Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, and then from Harvard Law School, Mr. Katz thereafter began working on Wall Street, where he first entered the world of hedge funds. Over the years, he has raised significant investor capital and commitments for compelling hedge funds, private equity funds, and medical life sciences companies, while simultaneously building strong long-term relationships with global investors as well as many hundreds of U.S. institutional investors and family offices. His current positions at Crawford and the HFA include responsibilities such as: contributing to the development and implementation of industry leading best practices, attending some one hundred hedge fund industry and institutional investor conferences each year, and identifying and securing for hedge funds investments from suitable domestic and foreign institutional investors and family offices.
Experience, Honors & Awards
Mr. Katz has earned a plethora of honors and awards throughout his career in finance. In 2011, he was awarded the Young Leadership Award at the Hedge Fund Summit, an honorable achievement that showcases his extensive knowledge and demonstrates innovative leadership while working with hedge funds as a young professional. Mr. Katz also has been recognized as an expert speaker by various industry leading firms and businesses, including KPMG LLP for his expertise and in-depth knowledge regarding hedge fund fundraising and the JOBS Act, and by the HFA and Chadbourne & Parke LLP for his expertise regarding hedge fund fundraising, operational due diligence, and best practices. He likewise has been asked to speak at leading universities and business schools as an expert regarding hedge funds and fundraising. Mr. Katz also was appointed and served for four years as a member of the Advisory Board of Infovest21 LLC, a leading hedge fund industry conference company, research service and news publisher.
In addition to his senior-level expertise and experience with hedge funds, Mr. Katz also has acquired a vast amount of professional skills and other financial exposure that have molded him into an intelligent, well-rounded individual whose capabilities exceed high expectations. This experience and expertise includes venture capital, mid- and late-stage private equity, debt offerings, IPO’s and subsequent public equity secondary offerings, and spinoffs. He also has an abundance of background and subject matter knowledge with regard to corporate management, operations andgovernance, IT, software, biotechnology, and the Internet.
